Overwhelmed by the magnificence and splendor of the 800 year Muslim dominion, Iqbal
seemed spellbound for a moment. For decades he had longed to visit Spain,
not only for its legendary charm and picturesque beauty but, more
importantly, to experience the heritage of almost 800 years of Islamic
presence.
But now, it seemed as if the glory and
grandeur of this greatest legacy of Muslims had bewitched him. Soon he
found himself reminiscing about Tariq Bin Ziad's hawks pulverizing a
mammoth Visgothic army of King Roderick. So firm was their determination.
Such unwavering was their resoluteness.
Enraptured by those flashbacks, his eyes would've filled
with tears; the tears of pride and elation. It was agonizing, both
spiritually and emotionally, to see the reflection of the Muslim splendor
cast a borrowed light upon the history of the land which it had once
warmed with its sunny radiance.
Infact, the Arabs suddenly appeared in Spain like a star
which crosses through the air with its light, spreads its flames on the
Horizon and then vanishes rapidly into naught.
This website will try to portray Iqbal's brief sojourn in Spain and his experience at Masjid-e-Qurtaba.
