XI-LXIX
I kept beaming
face in this or that case,
I raised the old veils from the meaning face.
At such a high pitch to craves I brought,
That one breath I had the other had not.1
1.
Here craves means verve; excitement.
Here (old) veils means barriers (of wordly love) between man and God.
Here ‘Meanings’ or (Ma’ana) of Persian means spiritual attainments and
accomplishment; Intrinsic perfection; intrinsic qualities or values existing
within, not taken from outside. Line 3 Literal So vexed by ‘friend’ I was, ask
me not. Here ‘friends’ is the Prophet himself.
