Online Lecture: "The Nature of Ghalib's Influence on Iqbal's Thought"

Iqbal is the turning point in our cultural and civilizational history, where we analyze our past and present and strive to answer anew all those questions that resurface from time to time in new words. (Dr. Tanzeem-ul-Firdous) Iqbal Academy Pakistan, Lahore (February 15, 2025) – On the 156th death anniversary of Mirza Asadullah Ghalib, Iqbal Academy Pakistan organized an online lecture. The guest speaker, Professor Dr. Tanzeem-ul-Firdous, former head of the Department of Urdu, University of Karachi, and General Secretary of Idara-e-Yadgar-e-Ghalib, presented a well-articulated paper on "The Nature of Ghalib's Influence on Iqbal's Thought."
In her speech, she examined the similarities and differences in the lives, poetry and philosophy of Mirza Ghalib and Allama Iqbal. She emphasized that "The depth and sincerity of Iqbal's and Ghalib's poetry will always affirm their relevance across all times. Their shared intellectual attitudes and inclinations can certainly be studied, but drawing comparisons or contrasts is not feasible. Iqbal is a traveler of the journey that begins after Ghalib."
At the end of the session, Dr. Abdul Rauf Rafiqi, Director, Iqbal Academy Pakistan, expressed gratitude to the guest speaker and the audience.
This lecture was broadcast live on Zoom and Iqbal Academy’s official YouTube channel (youtube.com/iqbalacademy). Participants from Pakistan, India, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States attended the event online.
